We all want to save up money in these times.
Any trip can be adapted to different budgets. But how to do it?
Today I bring you the best tips I have learnt in my years of traveling, hope it can be useful to you.
1. Work on a Farm (WWOOF)
WWOOF stands for World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. With this organization you can go to different countries where you will work with organic farmers (or host).
You can choose from 130 countries and 1200 hosts, then you can plan your stay.
You get to stay for free and, at the same time, you can win some new skills like planting, harvesting, animal care, and more.
2. Use sharing economy
The world has changed so much lately. We are now searching for ways to make practical choices to become more accessible for everybody.
That is how shared economy was born, through sharing and collaborating. A good option for saving money.
There is a lot of apps you can use depending on what you want or need.
For example, if you need a ride, you have Blablacar. An app that it is used to make road trips with other’s people car. You only need to indicate your origin and destination and your options will pop up. All the options have different price and “owners” with their respective information. You only need to choose with who and when.
We also have Couchsourfing, where you can stay with locals in their place. You will only have to register and then you can explore all the profiles and preferences. Later, you can choose your option and start the contacting. Now is the time to meet new people.
Finally, Eatwith, a gastronomic experience. With this platform local “host” will be able to offer restaurant-like experiences and home-cooked food to others. EatWith combines fine dining and social networking.
3. Tourist Passes
Tourist passes, or city card, are the new way to visit a destination.
With these cards you will be able to visit numerous attractions and monuments with a discounted price.
The objective is to offer these attraction packages at a lower price than if you got it one by one. Once tourist have the pass, they won’t have to pay any additional fee in any attraction.
The pass ticket is generally 30–50 percent less than the combined cost of purchasing the included tickets individually. Plus, it saves up time in the planning.
4. Students’ discounts
If you are a student, or you have the youth card, I bring you good news. Almost in any place they do this type of discount.
In my case, the moment I arrive somewhere is the first thing I ask. You never know if you can save up a little.
You can get discounts in your plane ticket, food, hotels, attractions, cinema and much more.
You can save up to 50% on your vacations, so don’t miss it.
5. Free walking tours
I talked about this in my post of “Free plans in Amsterdam”.
As I told you, in almost every city they offer Free tours to visit all the monuments and interesting places by walking, the best way to know a place.
It is completely free, but you will be able to do a donation at the end of the tour if you liked it.
Further way, this is the best way to know a destination if you have limited time. With their planning, you will see all the important things in matter of hours and later you can relax.
6. House sitting & pet sitting
There is a platform called “TrustedHousesitters”, in which you can get a place to stay for free in exchange of pet sitting or, sometimes, even house sitting.
Not only you will save up money, but you will be able to share the experience with a cute animal. You can choose form different stays and pets.
You only have to pay a yearly fee and then you become a member of the community. You can travel and sit when you want.
7. Travel credit cards
In my post “10 tips for studying abroad”, I talked about airline’s member cards.
But today I bring you travel credit cards. It is something that I learned not while ago, but it has help me a lot.
With travel credit cards, you can get reward points (miles) in an airline just by buying things. This way you can get discounts or upgrades on plane tickets, hotels and much more.
You'll get an opportunity to acquire rewards through everyday purchases and earn significantly more miles through travel and eating purchases.
8. Travel in off season
The most important tip is that you get your tickets in advance to avoid wasting more money.
In addition, buying tickets during off season is considerably less expensive than they normally would be, making you save money.
Try to avoid buying the tickets for a weekend, that is when most people can travel.
Try to avoid holidays, that is when al families travel.
Not only you will save money, but you will also be able to take better photos because there is less tourists, also the attractions are cheaper and the hotel fares too.
Would you try any of this?
Comment if it was useful.
See you in my next post!
