Today I am sharing the best tips to make long lasting flights as comfrotable as possible.
As you may know, I am experienced in having long lasting flights. So, I will give you all the tips that I have learnt from my past mistakes. I hope is useful for you.
1. BOOK YOUR FLIGHT EARLY:
If you didn't do this already, how are you surviving?
As you may know, booking the flight with early advance will give you a lot of priorities. The sooner you book it, the cheaper it is and the best seat you get.
Also, if you are flexible with dates and you just want to save money, I would recommend you Skyscanner.
In this website you can select months for the flights instead of specific dates. It will show you the best prices for each day of the month, which can make you save money in order to spend it in the actual trip.
Moreover, if you are just into adventures. You can let the website show you the cheapest destinations instead of having an specific one.
2. CHOOSE YOUR SEAT WISELY:
Mostly, avoid being close to the bathroom, as many people will pasa through and won't let you rest.
Another recommendation is that if you are booking in pairs, don’t book your seats next to each other. Have one person book a window, and another book an aisle seat leaving the middle seat open. That seat will get filled last, because who wants to sit in a middle. If the seat is filled, you can always ask to switch seats.
In addition, there are many websites that will do the job for you and will show you a map of the plane with the best seat selections. Personally, I recommend you SeatGuru.
3. HYDRATATION:
When you’re flying, the humidity is just 10 to 20% inside the plane. Drier than the Sahara!
Always try to buy a bottle of water before takeoff.
Personally, I prefer to buy it before getting into the plane as I have heard stories about the bad quality of liquids in the plane. Better safe than sorry.
4. SNACKS:
In a flight you won't be able to have your own eating schedule because, usually, from the start of the flight it takes 40 minutes before the crew brings out the food and drinks.
I recommend you to bring your own snacks or food, that way you won't depend on the attendants' schedule. Furthermore, you can even save up money as food is way cheaper outside the airport .
You can bring snacks like: granola bars, chips, fruit, a trail mix or a homemade sandwich.
Do not worry, they let you pass food through the security screening.
5. SKIN CARE PRODUCTS:
Personally, this is my favourite tip.
As I mentioned before, the plane environment is very dry and this will also affect your skin.
When we travel we want to take a lot of pictures and be glowing in them. I discovered that when I travelled zits never stoped appearing so i took the matter in my own hands.
What better way than to spend a long flight like you were in a spa. Bring hydratation products like baseline, eye drops, hand and face cream, and why not? Some of your favourite masks too.
Some of you may think it could be embarassing for people to see you like that, but you are never going to see them again. So, go for it.
6. PACK ANTI-BACTERIAL WIPES:
Now, with the pandemic, this is an essential tip from me.
Eventhough, all the planes are cleaned before, you can never be too sure. I always pack anti-bacterial wipes that I use to clean the area or to clean my hands.
Also, you can use them in case of emergency. If something spills. You can never be too prepared.
7. NOISE CANCELLATION & EYE MASK:
For those who can sleep on a flight, this is your tip.
Bring noise cancellation headphones, or earplugs, to avoid waking up to a baby crying or to the crew's annoucements.
Some airlines, provide eye masks for the long trips but, let's be honest, they are not known for its amazing quality. That is why I always bring my fluffly eye mask. I may look ridiculous but It allows me to sleep like a baby.
Personally, I use the BEATS headphones which really cancels all the noise. You can also find good eye masks here.
8. TRAVEL PILLOW AND COVER:
An essential to be comfortable for a long trip.
We all hate when we fall sleep in the plane and we wake up with the worst neck pain. That is the reason why i don't travel without my travel pillow. This one is the one I use since it holds you head, chin and neck. But you have a lot of other options.
In addition, temperatures in the plane are unpredictable. Maybe the one sitting next to you its dying of warmth and you, in the contrary, are freezing. So you should plan ahead, and bring a cover or a pullover just in case you need it.
9. WALK DOWN THE AISLE:
According to some studies sitting for too long can cause problems like increased blood pressure, or high blood sugar.
From my point of view, when I am sitted for too long I feel like my legs detach from my body.
So, I highly recommend you to take short walks down the aisle, even if it is just to go to the toilet and to see yourself in the mirror. You will thank me later.
10. BUY WIFI BEFORE TAKEOFF:
If you are planning to buy the wifi that the airlines offer while flying. I recommend you to do it before takeoff, or even before entering the plane, this way will be 100 times cheaper.
Just visit the website of the company and you will be able to do it.
11. ADDITIONAL ENTERTAINMENT:
Most of the times, the planes in a long flight have screens where you can enjoy multiple entertainment like movies, games or music.
But once, in a 9 hour flight that I took the screen was broken and I had to force myself to sleep to not die of boredom.
So, from my personal experience, I recommend you bringing additional entertainment like a book, tablet or cards.
12. POWER BANK
When I travel, my power bank is my best friend. Even if it is a short trip.
You never know when you will need it. If you need to make an emergency call or just for google maps.
I always bring two, just in case. Be sure to fully charge it.
You have different power banks with different capacities. So, you can always choose the best fit.
I personally use this one.
13. DRESS COMFY:
I always travel in my tracksuit or my leggings. The last thing you want is be sitting in a 10 hour flight with something that itches or that is tight.
If you want to be super comfortable, don’t be afraid to bring slippers.
14. MELATONIN SUPPLEMENTS:
We all have suffered from jet lag, it is one of the most nerve-racking things because you cannot do anything.
Not long ago I started using Melatonin supplement. They are completely natural and they will help you a lot with jet lag.
This are the ones I use.
15. INSURANCE:
Before the pandemic, I never bought insurance for my trips because I thought it wasa waste of money.
But in the uncertain environment we are living in you never know what is going to happen or if you are going to need it.
I use Safety Wing because you have different options with different prices ranges. I guarantee you they comply.
I hope this was useful for you and you could learn something new.
This is my personal recommendation and it doesn't have to be 100% relatable.
So what is the most useful tip for you?
